This task is more commonly known
as signing up for a server. What a server does is it says that it
will host your page for a certain price. When I say host I mean it
will give you an address and a place to store your web pages. Nowadays,
you can get your page hosted with many servers for free. Here are
a list of servers that I would recomend, all of which are free:
Server | Description | What address would be |
Xoom.com | This is a good service because of the short address and it only puts a small advertisement on your web page. | http://members.xoom.com/yourname/ |
FreeServers.com | This is what I use for this site. The advertisement is small and you can choose from many addresses. | your address would be yourname.*.com
*=iwarp, 8m, htmlplanet, + much more!!! |
Hypermart.net | This is nice because of the short address and the advertisement is a pop up window and doesn't actually sit on your page. | http://yourname.hypermart.net |
As you may have noticed I have not listed several popular
servers such as:
Geocities, Tripod, Homestead, and many others.
Most people do not like these as much because of the extremely long address.
With a shorter name like the ones I have listed you have a better chance
of someone stumbling on your page or if they see an advertisement, they
would more easily remember the address.
